More Details
A climbing kiln sits atop a hut that is used as a pottery workshop. This climbing kiln was built around 1935 by Masako Hisamatsu, a female potter. The historic kiln shed has been restored, and now the kilns are fired about twice a year. This workshop is for those who want to create beautifully thin and sturdy everyday tableware! Using Takara Clay Studio's original method, even beginners and children can complete the project without any problems! The tableware will be full of seasonal charm using plants from the garden. You can also draw patterns with a bamboo skewer instead of using leaves. Located just an hour and a half from central Tokyo in Kamakura, where you can enjoy the natural valley scenery, why not try making your own one-of-a-kind pottery at Takara Clay Studio? Optional lunch add on for an extra fee: Enjoy a bento box from Sue-tei in the garden. (Takeaway in case of rain) Alternatively, you can reserve a Japanese-style room or hall for a more leisurely lunch. We will guide you to Sue-tei, so please contact us first. The store manager is currently learning sign language. Deaf people are also welcome to join!
