Kaga-Yuzen Handkerchief Dyeing Experience (Kaga-Yuzen Kimono Center)
Kaga-yuzen is a silk-dyeing technique characterized by its use of five basic colors: indigo, crimson, ocher, dark green, and purple.
You can dye your own handkerchief or tote bag, using a style of dyeing used mainly for high-end kimono that has been produced in Ishikawa for over 300 years.

Intricate designs are drawn on paper then transferred to white silk before a careful process of dyeing starts. Choose from handkerchiefs, tote bag, and drawstring bag. (Time required: about 20 min) Handkerchief #1- 1,650yen Reception hours until 16:00 Stencil Dyeing (for elementary school children and older, as well as preschoolers accompanied by an adult) Stencil-dyeing is done with a predesigned pattern. It is easy for anyone to try. Handkerchief #2- 1,980yen Reception hours until 15:30 Stencil-dyeing (Ages: 5 years old and over) The fact that you can pick out your favorite design from several options makes it easier to try stencil-dyeing a handkerchief. Even small children can enjoy dyeing. Tote Bag- 2,420yen Reception hours until 15:30 Stencil-dyeing (Ages: 3 years old and over) You can easily stencil-dye a tote bag (H36xW35xD10cm) with a design of our local mascot “Hyakuman-san”. Even small children can try. Booking is required for a group. Same-day booking is possible on the day of the workshop for a group of up to four people. Please book a week in advance for a group of five or more people.
