In the permanent exhibition, objects are classified into such groups as "Clothes," "Food," "Houses," "Praying," "Festivals." On occasion, the building's entryway hosts a celebrated master artisan demonstrating their crafts live in person. Visitors can feel and observe the traditional skills developed over the centuries in this region. Their special exhibitions introduce inspiring works from around the country. At the museum shop, visitors can feel and touch the crafts, handmade by local artisans. Here, you can enjoy the beauty, sophisticated skills, and spirit of preserving the traditional crafts, developed through history and culture, as well as the new suggestions for ways to connect the traditional and modern lives. Visitors can also sign up for various workshops, including items available to make on an ongoing basis, as well as craft workshops only available for limited engagements. Sometimes, discounts are available if you present a receipt or ticket showing you've visited another museum or cultural center in the city on the same date. The building has two entrances, including one you can reach from inside the Kenroku-en gardens. Unlike many museums, photography and videography are allowed in most areas. Much of the information and signage includes both Japanese and English language translations. Hours: 9:00 amļ¼ 5:00 pm (last admittance at 4:30 pm) Closed: April to November: 3rd Thursday of the month (except Holiday Thursdays) December to March: Thursdays, The year-end and New Year holidays Admission: Adults: 260 yen 65 and older: 210 yen Students [17 and under]: 100 yen *Ages 6 and under: Free *Group rates available (30 and more) 1st floor is free and open to the public. Coin lockers are available for 100 yen, which will be returned. Restrooms are available. 12 parking spaces available.
