Come and try making a rattan folding fan that opens fully to form a circle at Kiuchi Touzai Kogyo, a rattan products specialty store in Sengoku, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. The handles of these rattan folding fans are made using the traditional rattan crafting techniques of wrapping and decorative weaving. The fan portion is made with a new type of Washi paper made from recycled fibers, using traditional papermaking techniques. Hideki Kiuchi, the instructor, is the third generation proprietor of his shop. He is a certified Tokyo Traditional Craftsman and Bunkyo-ku Master Craftsman. The workshop will let you actually experience how rattan is hard yet supple, as well as the expertise of the artisans who work with it. ・Hideki Kiuchi, the third-generation proprietor, personally travels to Indonesia to purchase the highest quality Sega rattan. ・The handles of the fans are made using Tokyo Rattan Kogei techniques for binding and decorative weaving. ・Visit and enjoy shopping at the souvenir corner after your activity.
