More Details

The Center for Innovation in Traditional Industries was established in 2017 to compile and utilize the academic resources on traditional industries cultivated by Kyoto Seika University. Located in one of the world's leading sites of craft production, the Kyoto-based center aims to build new partnerships in handcrafts across national and regional borders through research, education and public engagement. Kyoto Seika is located in the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto. This beautiful and historic city is known worldwide as a tourist destination and cultural hotspot. It is a place where old and new coexist, where skilled artisans practice centuries-old crafts next door to cutting-edge industries that produce electronic components, precision instruments, and the latest cultural content, such as manga, anime, and video games. Kyoto Seika is committed to providing a diverse education that takes advantage of this rich cultural heritage. Japanese Traditional Painting Major: To paint Nihonga, or Japanese-style paintings, is to observe and capture the essence of the landscape, flora, and fauna that unfold in front of your eyes, to express its beauty using traditional Japanese-style painting techniques. Textile dyeing, pottery, lacquerware, and incense making are traditional Japanese crafts that are still alive and thriving in Kyoto. Kyoto Traditional Crafts Internship is conducted during the two-week summer holiday for third and fourth year students in the Faculty of Art, Design, Humanities, Manga, and Popular Culture. Those who have completed the prerequisite courses in their first and second years are eligible to apply. The program offers a wide range of host organizations and highlights the significance of studying art in Kyoto. Many students participate in the program each year and discover new perspectives and possibilities for their art practice. [Notice] Entrance examinations and classes at Kyoto Seika University are conducted in Japanese. International students who apply must satisfy requirements for Japanese language proficiency and status of residence. JLPT N2/N1 Location: 137 Iwakura Kinocho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, 606-8588
