More Details

Our school was founded in 1962 as an Urasenke Tea Ceremony Training Institute. It was renamed "Urasenke Gakuen" in 1971, and became a vocational school in 1976. In 1983, upon the completion of the current school building, we were approved as an educational corporation by Kyoto Prefecture and became the Urasenke Gakuen Tea Ceremony College. In 1985, we opened a graduate school as an additional educational course to our main course (Tea Ceremony), and in 2001 we opened a one-year course. We have continued to this day as an educational institution that cultivates excellent tea ceremony instructors while meeting the needs of the times. The graduates, now numbering over 1,000, are active teaching in their own homes as well as at schools, universities, and companies. The grand master has also sent graduates overseas to teach chado. A few graduates have remained at Konnichian as apprentices to the grand master, or the Gakuen, as instructors. We offer a three-year cultural and liberal arts course called the "Tea Ceremony Department" and a one-year "Bekka" course. The Bekka offers a one-year course, a graduate school, and a "Foreigner Training Course" for students studying tea ceremony from overseas. Application Requirements for 1 year course: ・Those who hold a license of "Intermediate (Japanese-level)" or higher *Age, gender, and nationality are not important, but applicants must have Japanese language proficiency equivalent to passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or higher.
